The next generation of heart surgeries is here.
The number of new surgeries, according to the latest data from the American Heart Association, is set to reach 2.3 million by 2025.
While that number is expected to grow even faster, the heart surgery market will still be dominated by two groups of surgeons.
First is the heart transplant industry.
The industry accounts for more than half of all heart surgeries.
It includes procedures like bypass and transplant, as well as coronary artery bypass grafts, coronary bypass graft-on-bridget and pulmonary artery bypass surgery.
Second, are the cardiothoracic surgery surgeons, which is an increasingly popular specialty in recent years.
Cardiothorsacral surgeons are among the first in the world to be trained to perform a heart transplant, and they are currently responsible for nearly one in three heart transplants in the U.S. They also are among those who spend the most time in operating rooms.
