What’s on in the UK on September 29th, 2018
As the world waits for the arrival of the first batch of heart surgeons from India, the country is celebrating with an assortment of heart surgery related events.
Here are the highlights of this week’s festivities:Swaraj’s heart surgery at the UK’s Royal Victoria Hospital will take place at the end of this month.
This will be the first time the world has witnessed the operation on a live TV stage, with the show scheduled to begin in March 2019.
The show, entitled The Surgery of a Heart, will see Dr Swaraj, who is based in Mumbai, and Dr Gopal Rao, who will be performing the surgery, perform heart surgery on a variety of different patients, including a newborn, a heart transplant recipient and a person who suffers from a genetic defect.
Swarj has also revealed that the surgery will take around two hours and will be performed by an all-female team of surgeons.
A new heart transplant is also on the way for India, with Dr Manish Kumar, the world’s first cardiac surgeon, and his team reportedly on the verge of successfully injecting the first patient with a heart valve in a major heart transplant centre in India.
Kumar, who joined the Royal Victoria in May this year, has been working on the transplant since 2016.
